Hmm kinda answers out question of provision of broadband for low-income families...

From Straits Times 16 June 2009

The income cap for low-income families to receive subsidised computers under the Enhanced Neu PC Plus scheme is raised from $2,000 to $2,500. The Government also introduced a new Broadband-Only Scheme, where households with school-going children under the Financial Assistance Scheme can get broadband services for $1.50 a month for three years. This is expected to help close the digital divide between the richer and poorer stratas.

  1. Hi GeogNut

Thanks for alerting us of the news.

I guess the strategy to close the digital divide has to be on a few fronts. Providing access to low income group is one. Another is to look into providing scheme that will allow for affordable ownership of computers and accessories for students.

I think schools, at least, or the govt have something in mind and will make the announcement in due time. Still, not taking away credit from the govt for looking into allowing access to low income group, I feel as a nation we are moving in the right direction in getting everyone hook onto the digital wagon.

An exciting times ahead for learning with technology.^-^

    Cheers, SL
